Celebrate Earth Day and biodiversity with a BioBlitz! Find and identify as many plants and animals as possible using the iNaturalist app in any of the following parks: Mirabeau Point Park in Spokane Valley, Sutton Park in Cheney, and Library Park in Deer Park. Record the birds in the sky, the insects by your feet, and the plants and trees all around! After a week of collecting information, we will meet to showcase what everyone has found in our community parks. Students and faculty from the Eastern Washington University Biology department will answer questions about the local plants and wildlife. All ages

To participate: Download the iNaturalist app (free) to your device and explore one of the three community parks between April 15 and April 22. Use the iNaturalist app to record and take pictures of the plants and wildlife you find. Each park will have a project page in the iNaturalist app to collect observations and photographs of what you find.

During National Celebrate Diversity Month, you’re invited to celebrate Spokane’s diversity with a history walk that includes sites and statues to remember, honor, and inform about some of the lesser known but important members of our community. Learn about the stories and lives of some of the Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, and women who helped make the Spokane area what it is today. Follow the walk through Spokane to imagine what life was like for them as they put down roots and propelled the region from being a small settlement to the thriving region it is today.
