The Presidential Collection: Art Displays

Saturday, November 16, 2019
All Locations
Travel around our libraries* to view vibrantly colorful oil portraits of the first 44 Presidents of the United States, from George Washington and John Adams to George W. Bush and Barack Obama, by artist John Thamm.

John Thamm is an accomplished portrait and landscape painter who grew up in Spokane Valley, received his MFA from the University of Idaho, and studied portraiture at the Arts Students League in New York City. He was a courtroom sketch artist in the 90s and covered notable trials, including Ruby Ridge, Waco, and the Aryan Nations. His first book, VETS: Fifty Portraits of Veterans and Their Stories was the result of an art project where he was given permission to set up an easel in the lobby of the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane to paint veterans’ portraits and record their stories as they waited for appointments.
