Deer Park Library: Closing for Construction 6/6/2016 12:00:00 AM
Deer Park Library: Closing for Construction
Deer Park Library will be closed for construction on Monday, Jun 6, through Sunday, Jun 12.

During construction, minor repairs and painting of the library’s interior, parking lot complete resurfacing, as well as repair and replacement of the brick walkway will be completed. As a result, the parking lot and walkway will be inaccessible.

Book returns will be through a portable book drop during the construction closure. Library staff will be retrieving books from the portable book drop and checking them in daily, so please be aware of your due dates. All holds will be available once the library has reopened.

This closure also means that the Deer Park Library meeting room, conference room, computer stations, and other on-site services will be unavailable. Everyone with an active library card can access our Digital Library at any time, including eBook and audiobook check outs through OverDrive, digital downloads from hoopla, and access to popular magazines from Zinio.

The library will reopen on Monday, Jun 13, for regular business hours.

Thank you for your patience as we refresh and repair Deer Park Library.

Cartooning the Evergreen State 6/8/2016 6:00:00 PM
Cartooning the Evergreen State
Speaker: Milt Priggee

Why is ‘local’ such a strong component in editorial cartoons? In an entertaining presentation that is designed to invite debate, political cartoonist Milt Priggee challenges audience members’ personal beliefs on local issues by sharing a collection of images specifically to explore what is considered acceptable commentary in the 21st century. He also shares some of his favorite published local cartoons, as well as some that were rejected for publication. He explains how the elements of political commentary are changing as the medium moves from print to digital media platforms, and highlights how and why critical thinking remains an essential element of an ever-changing democracy.
